India created history by becoming the first country in the world to have a safe soft landing on the Southern pole of the lunar surface. Chandrayaan-3 had a soft landing on the moon later in the day yesterday.

Coming to the topic, in the wake of Chandrayaan-3 landing on the moon’s surface, there are doubts so as to which country owns the rights on moon’s resources.

As per a treaty that was passed in 1966 by the UNO, no country can have exclusive access or rights to the resources on the surface of moon.

A new ordinance was passed in 1979, which bars any country, government, or company from claiming exclusive rights to any resources and piece of land on the moon.

However, America, Russia, and China which have sent rovers to the moon haven’t signed this agreement yet.

As far as the rulebook goes, no country owns the rights to moon’s resources and it has been announced that the property belongs to all of the humankind.
