Volunteers' data leading to human trafficking: Pawan Kalyan

Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan addresses the public meeting in Eluru on Sunday. – BY ARRANGEMENT

Kakinada: Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan launched a scathing attack against Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in the name of his ‘volunteer’ system and looting Rs 30, 000 crore with the income from liquor sales to buy votes in the next elections.

Addressing a public meeting at Eluru on Sunday night during the second phase of his Varahi Yatra, the actor-politician said that Central intelligence officials in New Delhi told him that there was massive human trafficking in Andhra Pradesh and the state’s women and girls were in danger through the ‘volunteer’ system.

Approximately 30,000 girls and women had gone missing in 2019-20 but only 14,000 of them returned home.

“What happened to the rest,’’ he asked and wanted to know if the Chief Minister had discussed about missing girls with the DGP. He said that this was a serious issue and could not be brushed aside lightly. He said that volunteers are collecting data from every family and the information is being misused to perpetrate crimes, including human trafficking.

Pawan Kalyan questioned Jagan Mohan Reddy about his promise to impose prohibition in the state. He said that the government had earned Rs 1.27 lakh crore from liquor sales, but was showing a revenue of only Rs 97,000 crore. The remaining `30,000 crore has been pocketed and it would be used to buy votes in the next elections, Pawan Kalyan alleged.

He said that 28 persons had lost their lives after consuming spurious liquor at Jangareddygudem and Jagan Mohan Reddy should be held responsible for these deaths. He declared that he would wage a relentless fight against the state government and would not mind losing his life for the noble cause.

Describing Jagan Mohan Reddy as a criminal, who had attacked a police official in his youth, had now become the Chief Minister to the great misfortune of the people of the state.

Pawan Kalyan also made it clear that he would not respect him any longer and address him simply ‘Jagan’ as he had stooped down to such low levels that he makes personal comments against women in his own family.  He said that IAS officer Arun Babu, as joint collector of Eluru district, had prepared an 1800-page report on corruption in Eluru municipal corporation and submitted it to the government. However, the report is gathering dust with no one working on it.
