The financial challenges facing the state of Andhra Pradesh have once again come to the forefront due to recent events. It has been highlighted that even basic funds for official visits, such as the Chief Minister’s meetings, are lacking. This situation underscores the dire financial condition of the state.

The state’s financial difficulties are evident when even the district collector, who serves as the head of the district administration, doesn’t have sufficient funds to arrange for the Chief Minister’s visit.

In this case, the district collector had to request funds from the higher education department to cover the expenses of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit to lay the foundation stone of the Central Tribal University in Vizianagaram district.

The collector had initially requested Rs.3.5 crores for the arrangements, but the finance department denied the request due to budget constraints. Instead, the collector was advised to take a loan from the Higher Education Council to cover the expenses.

The Higher Education Department communicated to the collector that the government would reimburse the expenses if the bills were submitted.

In response, the collector quickly arranged for a loan of Rs.50 lakhs from the Higher Education Council. This quick approval and arrangement for a loan highlight the urgency of the financial situation and the need to find immediate solutions even for routine government expenses.

This situation sheds light on the financial challenges faced by the state administration and the need for sustainable financial management.
