Review: A Cinematic Ode to Love, Parenthood, and Emotions

“Hi Nanna,” a much-awaited cinematic gem helmed by director Shouryuv, featuring Nani and Mrunal Thakur, exceeds expectations, presenting an emotionally immersive experience. Across its 155-minute runtime, the film adeptly delves into the intricacies of love, marriage, and parenthood, capturing attention and touching the soul.

The performances of Nani, Mrunal Thakur, and Kiara Khanna breathe life into this heartwarming family drama. Their portrayal of vulnerabilities and the profound father-daughter bond is praiseworthy. Nani’s transformation post-Dasara injects a new dimension into his character, while Mrunal’s versatility shines effortlessly. The palpable chemistry between the leads transforms their on-screen moments into pure delight. Their characters are multifaceted and thoroughly explored, as Nani effortlessly embodies the roles of a photographer, a desperate father, and a longing lover, striking emotional chords, while Mrunal complements him beautifully.

Kiara Khanna’s portrayal of Mahi steals hearts with a stellar performance, becoming the movie’s most adorable and captivating aspect. Even Pluto, the pet dog, contributes significantly to the storyline. The film is dotted with moments that tug at the audience’s heartstrings.

The ensemble cast, including Shruti Haasan, Nassar, Priyadarshi, Angad Bedi, Jayaram, and Hemayat Rahman, contribute effectively to the film’s allure. Shruti and Nani sway to the peppy beats of ‘The Party Anthem Odiyamma’ during a Goa episode, offering a lively break from the poetic narrative.

The musical brilliance of Hesham Abdul Wahab, cinematography by Sanu John Varghese, and Praveen Anthony’s editing elevate the emotional depth of the narrative, crafting a tasteful saga with impeccable production values. Despite occasional predictability and a slightly slow-paced narrative, all elements converge, providing an engaging cinematic experience.

While maintaining consistent engagement, minor lags intermittently allow the lead characters to flesh out their emotions. “Hi Nanna” transcends mere movie status, becoming a voyage through love, resilience, and the fragile bonds uniting a family. Shouryuv, Nani, Mrunal, and the entire cast have birthed a beautiful film resonating with audiences, establishing it as a must-watch for those seeking a fusion of heart and soul in cinema.
