Ex-PM Manmohan Singh Tested Positive For Covid19, Rushed To AIIMS

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was on Monday admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi after testing positive for Covid-19. He has taken both doses of Covid vaccine.

The 88-yearold former PM has mild symptoms of the disease, including fever, and has been admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, a dedicated Covid facility, hospital sources said, adding that his condition is stable.

The decision to hospitalise Singh was taken considering his age and history of illness. The former PM is known to be diabetic and a heart patient. He has undergone two bypass surgeries.

Manmohan has a history of heart surgeries

In 1990, former PM Manmohan Singh underwent a bypass surgery in the UK, followed by an angioplasty in 2004 in Delhi. In 2009, he again underwent bypass surgery at AIIMS to openup blocked arteries. In May last year too, when the Covid-19 outbreak was peaking in Delhi, Singh was admitted to AIIMS following complaints of fever.

Wishes for the speedy recovery of the Congress veteran poured in. PM Modi tweeted, “Wishing our former PM Dr Manmohan Singh Ji good health and a speedy recovery.” Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Wishing you a speedy recovery. India needs your guidance and advice in this difficult time.”

Former Union minister P Chidambaram, CMs Ashok Gehlot, Amarinder Singh and Mamata Banerjee, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, BJP’s Himanta Biswa Sarma, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and several other leaders expressed concern over Singh’s health.
