Tollywood Box Office-Poor Show

The Box Office revenues of Telugu films have taken nosedive of late with the recent films turning out to be back-to-back duds. The three releases of the last Friday too continued the flop streak of Box Office. Sundeep's 'Tenali Ramakrishna BA.BL,' Vishal's 'Action', Vijay Sethupathi have failed to pull in crowds to cinemas leaving distributors, exhibitors in losses.

Sundeep's comic caper 'Tenali Ramakrishna' was expected to bail the actor out and expected to give him much-needed commercial hit. Whereas, the film earned poor reviews and ending up as another flop for Sundeep. The Monday morning shows were said to be dull.

Vishal and Sundar C's over-dosed 'Action' too failed to impress critics and Telugu audiences alike. Despite huge outdoor publicity, 'Action' has no takers in Tollywood.

Vijay Sethupathi's attempt at mass and commercial cinema has been outrightly rejected. Vijay's film turns out to be unbearable. The over-the-top masala and illogical scenes have disappointed Telugu audience who expect different cinema from Vijay Sethupathi.

The only Telugu film which worked since October 2019 is Chiranjeevi's 'Sye Raa.' However, even 'Sye Raa' suffered in non-Telugu states.  The patriotic drama directed by Surender Reddy  has performed well in the Telugu states. The film has become failure in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Hindi-speaking belt. Overall, it couldn't do as expected. Yet, 'Sye Raa' turns out to be a successful Telugu film.

As the films like 'George Reddy' (Nov 22) and Nikhil's 'Arjun Suravaram' (Nov 29) are in pipeline for Nov 2019, it needs to be seen whether these two films would come out with flying colours or not. Stay tuned.
