Supreme Court Dismisses IAS Officer Srilakshmi’s Appeal In Obulapuram Mining Company Case. Deets Inside

In the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) case, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea submitted by Y Srilakshmi, an Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS officer. She petitioned the Supreme Court to order the CBI to hold a hearing on charges and discharge applications only after the investigating agency filed its final report under Section 173 of the Criminal Procedure Code, relating to the 'inter-State boundary dispute.'

Her petition to have the CBI probe against her stayed was dismissed by the Supreme Court. Her petition was denied by the Telangana High Court on September 21. Srilakshmi challenged the High Court's decision in the Supreme Court.

On Friday, the two-member bench of Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice A. S. Bopanna heard this petition. Srilakshmi was represented by Senior Counsel Ranjith Kumar. According to him, the CBI had already submitted four chargesheets and was requesting more time each time. He asked the court to postpone the case's trial since the border issue between the two states was unclear, and the CBI had not filed full charges in the case for nine years.

The CBI had already acknowledged that the trial was nearing completion and that they were unable to press for a quick resolution, according to Justice Chandrachud. The court dismissed the petition, stating that no separate hearing was required because the High Court had already considered and ruled on all of the matters.
