Shraddha Kapoor is all set to play one of Bollywood's iconic roles, which is deep-rooted in our Indian folklore, after impressive performances in films such as 'Stree' (2018) and 'Chhichhore' (2019). She signed her next, a three-film series focused on the 'naagin' shape-shifting, a role that was revolutionised by many of her time's top actresses. Similar roles have been played before by Vyjayanthimala, Reena Roy, Rekha and Sridevi. In reality, Sridevi's appearance in 'Nagina' (1986) and 'Nigahen' (1989) as 'Ichhadhaari naagin' gained her cult status in filmdom. This could be her career-defining role, too, for Shraddha. The first superpower characters from our own mythology, appealing to a pan-India audience, were 'naagins' in Bollywood.
Shraddha talking about the yet-untitled film, which will be helmed by Vishal Furia (who directed the critically acclaimed 2017 Marathi film 'Lapachhapi'), "It's an absolute joy to play a 'naagin' on screen. In 'Nagina' and 'Nigahen' I grew up watching, admiring and idolising Sridevi ma'am and always wanted to play a similar role that is rooted in Indian folklore." The film, created by Nikhil Dwivedi, which is essentially a love tale, will be mounted and converted into a trilogy with some exciting visual effects.
