Kurup, a crime drama starring Dulquer Salmaan, was launched today to positive reviews from both reviewers and audiences. The film, however, has run afoul of the law, with a lawsuit filed against it in the Kerala High Court. 

 The movie may infringe on Sukumara Kurup's right to privacy, according to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL). A motion to halt the release of the film has been filed in court. 

Soon after, the Kerala High Court issued notices to the Centre, the State Government, Interpol, and film producers. The court did not pass any stay order on the film’s release though. Kurup also grabbed attention earlier for ‘glorifying’ a criminal. 

Dulquer plays the role of a conman Sukumara Kurup who had murdered another man in the 80s to fake his own death and claim the insurance money. Kurup also stars Indrajith Sukumaran, Sunny Wayne, Shine Tom Chacko, Sobhita Dhulipala, Anupama Parameswaran and Shivajith Padmanaban in important roles. 

The actor stated that the team has gone through many struggles both within and externally in order to bring it together and bring justice to the situation. The film's concept was conceived in 2012, according to director Srinath Rajendran. The project began filming in 2018 and lasted approximately two years.
