Kamal Haasan Not Allotted Torch Ligh Symbol, AMMK Allotted Pressure Cooker As Election Symbol

In Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry, the much-anticipated Assembly elections are scheduled to take place in 2021. The Autonomous Constitutional Authority Election Commission of India (ECI) has allocated election symbols to different parties with only months left for the elections. By alloting the Torch Light symbol to MGR Makkal Katchi, the ECI shocked the Actor-turned-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan. Kamal hoped that the Torch light symbol would be given to his party. ECI, however, assigned the Torch Light symbol to Puducherry for MNM. In 2018, Kamal Haasan started his political party and contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections with the symbol of the battery torch. He used the battery torch symbol, too in his recent election campaign.

Kamal Haasan said that speaking of ECI denying the torch light symbol; we are not worried about losing the election symbol. Though we have lost the Light of the Torch, we serve the public as a lighthouse. Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) of another political party, TTV Dhinakaran, was given a pressure cooker as an election symbol. The party can use the symbol for the elections of the Assembly in Tamil Nadu and 30 constituencies of the Assembly in Puducherry. Dhinakaran, who had been expelled from AIADMK, floated his own Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) party and won the RK Nagar by-poll with the emblem of the pressure cooker.
