Akshay Kumar Opens About Drugs In Bollywood, Sends A Video Message To His Fans

A four-minute long clip was shared by Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar on Instagram and finally broke his silence about the death of Sushant Singh Rajput and the allegations of widespread drug abuse in the film industry. He said that in Bollywood, like any other industry, the issue of drug abuse exists, but one should not assume that every person in the profession is part of the problem. As he argued that negative news has the power to ruin their hard-earned prestige and careers, he asked the media for sensitivity towards actors. Speaking in Hindi, Akshay Kumar said, “ I 'm talking to you with a heavy heart today. Over the past few weeks, I want to say so many things, but everywhere there is so much negativity. We might be called stars, but because of your love, Bollywood was made. We are not just an industry, but we have shown Indian values and culture throughout the world through our films.”

He further added, “After the sudden death of Sushant Singh Rajput, which pained us as much as it pained you, many problems came to light. These problems have forced us to look at what's going on in our own backyard. This has forced us to evaluate many of the ills of the film industry that need to be examined. Like, people are talking about narcotics and drugs now. I can't lie to you and tell you that there is no problem like this. It certainly does, just like in every industry and profession. However, it cannot be that every person in every industry is involved in the problem. How is that possible?”

Akshay concluded the video saying, “It's a request not to defame the industry to my fans. That's not right. Personally, I'm a strong believer in the power of the media. I advise the media to do their job properly, but please retain sensitivity in reporting as a derogatory statement may ruin someone's reputation for their entire life.”

After the post from Akshay Kumar, several celebrities came out in support of it. Sidharth Malhotra wrote 'love n respect… big bro,' while Karan Johar took to his Twitter to share the video and expressed his solidarity with hearts and folded hands. Akshay Kumar was assisted by Angad Bedi and Varun Dhawan as well.
