BJP President Nadda- ‘CAA Will Be Enforced Soon. Delayed Due To Corona Pandemic’

NEW DELHI: BJP President JP Nadda has said that 'very soon' the Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA) will be enforced. Quite soon, the CAA will be introduced. "Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was postponed," Nadda said at a rally in Siliguri in West Bengal. The president of the BJP further claimed that the party is committed to implementing CAA and that "everyone will benefit." Nadda is on a visit to Siliguri to take stock of the party's organisational problems ahead of the 2021 assembly elections in West Bengal. Nadda also took on the leader of TMC and West Bengal. "BJP works for growth for everyone, unlike TMC," Nadda said.

Earlier in August, the home ministry had told a parliamentary standing committee that it would require three more months to frame the rules of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Despite the issue of notification after its passage by the parliament, the lack of rules has held back the implementation of CAA. The bill, passed by Parliament last year in the midst of nationwide protests against it, aims to grant citizenship to Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Parsis, but not Muslims from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh who arrived in India before 31 December 2014. The act refers to those "who have been coerced or compelled to seek asylum in India because of religious persecution."
